Biography of James Christie
James Chrisite (1829-1892) was a graduate of the University (BA 1856). He went on to obtain an MA in 1857 and was awarded MD in 1860.
He was also one of the first Dispensary Surgeons at the Western Infirmary.
Christie was physician to the Sultan of Zanzibar and played a part in the campaign to end slave trade. On his return to Scotland he made a significant contribution to Scottish public health.
