Biography of John Hill Garven

John Hill Garven graduated with an Arts degree in 1819.

John Hill Garven was born in Bridport, Dorset, in 1800. He joined the University as a student in 1815, and took classes in Greek in his first year. He then took classes in Logic in 1816, and Ethics in his final year. He graduated with an Arts degree in 1819.

After University, John joined the church, working initially in Lanark, for the Presbytery of Glasgow. He then moved to Australia where he continued this work in New South Wales - first at Maitland, then Shoalhaven, and finally Palmers Island.
