Biography of George Fyfe MacDonald
George Fyfe MacDonald, born on 2 January 1889, was the son of Symington, a mining engineer, and Elizabeth Fyfe. Born in Mount Carbon, Fayette County, West Virginia, USA, he attended the University of Glasgow between 1909 and 1910, studying Mercantile Law in the Faculty of Law. His brothers, Symington and Donald, were also students at the University.
During the First World War, George was a Captain in the Lanark Battalion of the 8th Highland Light Infantry, which was disbanded in 1916 and was primarily involved in Scottish coast defence. It appears that he became a chartered accountant in the aftermath of the war.
