Biography of John Russel

John Russel matriculated at the University for an Arts course in 1812.

He was born in Canada, the fourth son of John, formerly a merchant.

The Russel family had been successful dry good merchants in Scotland when John Russel (1755-1805) immigrated to Canada in 1785 and set up business, John Russel & Company, in Montreal.
