Biography of Paul Bacsich

Paul Bacsich graduated DSc from the University on 26 June 1948. From 1937 Bacsich also held a lectureship in Embryology (Anatomy from 1939) at the University.

Bacsich was born at Szeged, Hungary, son of Marc, a clothier. He was an assistant professor at the Department of Anatomy at the University of Szeged, and had a number of research publications in Hungarian before coming to the University of Glasgow, such as "The variation of the fat content in cells in relation to the diet and to tuberculosis" [A porcsejtek zsírtartalmának az egyén táplaltsági fokával és a tuberculosissal kapcsolatos változása, 1932] and "The regulatoric mechanism of the circulation of the pecten" [A fésűszerv vérkeringése, 1934].

While at Glasgow, Bacsich worked closely with George Wyburn and Archibald Young of the Department of Anatomy. In 1947 Bacsich became a naturalised British citizen.

He was president of the Royal Philosophical Society of Glasgow from 1978-1981. Bacsich died on 24 December 1996 in Glasgow.
