Biography of Rev James Wordie

James Wordie first matriculated at the University of Glasgow in 1809 to study Greek and Logic. He was the third son of Thomas Wordie, a craftsman in the parish of Denny, Stirling (now Falkirk).

Wordie went on to become a Minister of the Church of Scotland and around 1823 went to Kingston, Jamaica to the kirk which had been established there just a few years earlier. He seems to have been instrumental in setting up a school and in helping to establish another six Presbyterian churches in Jamaica.

Wordie returned to Scotland around 1843 and was Minister at Cupar, Fife, where he died in 1862.
