Biography of David Vines

David Anthony Vines (1949- ) was Adam Smith Professor of Political Economy at the University from 1985 to 1992.

A graduate of the University of Melbourne (BA with first class honours in Economics, 1971) and the University of Cambridge (BA, again with first class honours in Economics, 1974), Vines was elected a Foundation Scholar at Pembroke College, Cambridge and a research student in Economics. He was subsequently Drapers Research Fellow, and graduated MA in 1977 and PhD in 1984.

Vines has been Adjunct Professor of Economics at the Australian National University's Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies since 1991. He left Glasgow in 1992 to become Fellow and Tutor in Economics at Balliol College, Oxford. He was appointed Professor of Economics at Oxford in 2000.
