Biography of Louis Sive

Louis Sive, MBChB 1921

Louis Sive graduated MBChB from the University in 1921. He was born in 1898 in Telsh, Russia (modern day Telsiai in Lithuania), son of Michael Gerson, a furniture dealer. His family immigrated to South Africa, where Louis graduted BA in 1917 from the University of the Cape of Good Hope.

Sive gained citizenship while residing in Stockton-on-Tees, England, in 1916, and enrolled at the University of Glasgow in the summer of 1918 to study Medicine. He was awarded a number of prizes, and graduated in April 1921. Sive worked as a demonstrator in the Pathology Department of the University of Glasgow.

In 1924 he received Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, and thereafter moved to Winchester, England, where worked in the Royal Hampshire County Hospital before returning to South Africa around 1926. There he was appointed district surgeon at Wynberg, Western Cape.

He is recorded as being in Israel from 1966, and dying there around that time.
