Biography of Cornelius Maximilian Cosmann

Cornelius Maximilian Cosmann graduated BSc from the University in 1938. He was was born in Gotha, Germany on 4 November 1914, son of Hugo Cosmann, a manufacturer.

Cosmann lived in Düsseldorf before he moved to Glasgow, where he enrolled in 1934 to study Applied Chemistry, and took classes at the Royal Technical College.

Cosmann went on to become a metallurgist and minerals consultant in the USA. After World War II, Cosmann served as technical advisor on the US prosecution team of Alfred Krupp, the German industrialist, at the Nuremberg war crime trials. He subsequently contributed to industrial reconstruction programs in Austria under the Marshall Plan. From 1950, Cosman went on to hold a variety of consultancy posts in the US, becoming the assistant director of the US National Commission on Materials Policy in 1972.
