Biography of Neil Jamieson
Neil Jamieson enrolled at the University of an Arts course in 1778, under William Richardson, Professor of Humanity. He won an award in the School of Humanities (Greek) for "good behavior, during an attendance of two sessions in the public class" (1779-80).
Jamieson was born in Virgina around 1760, where his father, originally from Glasgow, had found success as a tobacco merchant.
Jamieson returned to Virgina, marrying Fanny Whitehurst at Princess Anne, Virginia on 9 August 1791. He is recorded to have owned land and slaves in Norfolk County, Virginia.
