Rachel Paul Reid graduated MA from the University in 1913. She was born in Falkenberg, Sweden, daughter of William, a timber merchant, involved in the booming sawmill industry developing there at that time.

Reid enrolled at the University in 1909, aged 19. She attended classes in Mathematics, Logic, French and German, for which she won several prizes. After graduating in 1913, Reid worked as a teacher, residing in Bearsden.
