Biography of George Adeniji Garrick

George Adeniji Garrick was born in Benin City, Nigeria, son of Stanley David, a rubber planter. Educated at the government school in Benin City and King's College, Lagos, from 1933-1938, George enrolled at the University in 1944, aged 26, to study Medicine. He graduated MB ChB in 1952.

George also excelled in his extra-curricular activities in athletics, as he had done in Nigeria, gaining the Nigerian High Jump record in 1938. In October 1946, he was awarded Athletics Blue, then, in 1947, he gained international honours representing Scotland against England and Ireland. Subsequently, he was appointed Captain of University Athletics for the 1948-49 season.

Upon returning to Nigeria, George served as a medical practitioner in the Government Medical Service, before undertaking private practice.
