Biography of John Wilcox Anderson
John Wilcox Anderson was born in 1890 in Heart's Content, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. His father, Dr William Anderson, was a graduate of the University of Glasgow who had emigrated to Newfoundland. Like his brothers, Arthur and Thomas, John was sent to Scotland for his medical education, rather than attending a Canadian equivalent. In 1910, aged 20, he matriculated at Glasgow, studying Geology and Chemistry. He matriculated again the following year, but appears never to have finished his degree. John Wilcox Anderson died in Halifax, NS, in 1918 and was buried at home in Heart's Content.
