Biography of Walter Fox
Walter Fox was born in Pará, Brazil, son of shipbuilder and engineer, Guilherme. He enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine in the summer of 1881, aged 16, joining his brother Gilherme Henrique at the University of Glasgow.
Walter attended classes in Botany, Anatomy, Chemistry, Zoology, Physiology, Surgery and Hospital, Materia Medica, Pathology, Medicine, and Midwifery. He graduated MB CM on 26 July 1886. During his studies, Walter was awarded a first class certificate in the Senior Division of Clinical Medicine (1885-86), under Professor McCall Anderson.
Walter later became Resident Medical Officer at the Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand. Then moved to Australia where he was a surgeon at Narrandera Public Hospital, New South Wales, and Government Medical Officer of Narrandera District.
