Biography of Nicholas Round

Nicholas Grenville Round (1938- )was Stevenson Professor of Hispanic Studies from 1972 to 1994.

Born in Cornwall, Round studied at Pembroke College, Oxford and graduated BA in 1959 with first class honours in Spanish and French; MA in 1963, and DPhil in 1967. He was appointed Lecturer in Spanish at Queen's University, Belfast in 1962 and was Warden of Alanbrooke Hall of Residence. He left Glasgow in 1994 to become Hughes Professor of Spanish at the University of Sheffield, and retired in 2003.

Round's primary research interests were in fifteenth century Castilian history and literature and early modern fiction, and he translated Spanish and Portuguese plays into English. He was an executive member and Vice-Chairman of the Clydebank and Milngavie Constituency Labour Party.
