Bernard Leake

Bernard Elgey Leake (1932- ) is a graduate of the University (DSc 1998) who was Professor of Geology and Keeper of the Geological Collections in the Hunterian Museum from 1974 to 1997.

A graduate of the University of Liverpool (BSc with first class honours and PhD) and the University of Bristol (DSc, 1974), Leake was a Leverhulme post-doctoral research fellow at Liverpool from 1955 to 1957. He was an assistant and then Lecturer and (from 1968) Reader in Geology at Bristol, 1957 to 1974. He gained his second DSc at Glasgow for a thesis entitled Studies of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rock-forming and modification processes. He is author of a biography of his predecessor in the chair of Geology, John Walter Gregory - The life and work of Professor J.W. Gregory FRS (1864-1932): geologist, writer and explorer (London: Geological Society, 2011).

Professor Leake left Glasgow in 1997 and became Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Earth, Ocean and Planetary Sciences at the University of Cardiff.
