James Moir

James Moir (c 1840-1915) was Professor of Conveyancing, 1889 to 1916. He was a Dean of the Faculty of Law and a member of Court./p>

Born near Blairgowrie, Moir served his legal apprenticeship in a local solicitor's office and then studied at the University of Edinburgh while working for a lawyer in the city. He came to Glasgow to work for Moncrieff, Paterson, Forbes & Barr and studied at the University. In 1863 he became a law agent and six years later he entered into partnership in the firm that became Moir, Forbes & Guy.

Moir was an authority on feudal law and was legal assessor to Glasgow Dean of Guild Court.
