Biography of Frederick Gordon Robertson
Frederick Gordon Robertson graduated MBChB from the University on 17th July 1906.
He was born on 26th August 1884 in Dumbarton, son of John, a medical doctor, and Elizabeth. He was one of fifteen children, of whom eight graduated in medicine from the University. He remained at home in Benview, Dumbarton throughout his studies.
Robertson first enrolled at the University in 1901, aged 17, to study for a degree in Medicine. He attended classes in Zoology and Chemistry in session 1901-02; Botany and Physics in session 1902-03; Anatomy, Physiology, and Materia Medica in session 1903-04; Pathology and Public Health in session 1904-05; and Surgery, Clinical Surgery, Medical Practice, Clinical Medicine, and Midwifery in session 1905-06.
He was awarded three prizes during his time at the University. In 1902 he was awarded a First Class Certificate for Professor Andrew Gray’s Physics class; a Second Class Certificate in 1903 for the Practical Physiology class of Professor John Gray McKendrick, one of the founders of the Physiological Society, and a Second Class Certificate in 1905 for James Walker Downie’s class on Diseases of the Throat and Nose.
After graduating Robertson worked as a medical practitioner, first in Dumbarton and later Sydney, Australia.
Robertson died in Sydney on 12th August 1944.
