Biography of Alice Moorhouse

Alice Moorhouse graduated MBChB from the University in 1901. She was born in Canterbury, New Zealand, daughter of medical doctor Benjamin Michael Moorhouse.

Moorhouse studied at Canterbury College from 1895, before enrolling at the University of Glasgow in 1896.

Moorhouse returned to New Zealand, where she was medical officer at Hanmer Springs Sanatorium, and later at St Helen’s Maternity Hospital, Christchurch. She was member of the Philosophical Institute of Canterbury, and married another member, Reverend Christopher Hudson Moreland on 5 September 1908 at St Michael and All Angels' Church, Christchurch. By the late 1920s Dr Alice Moreland had retired from medical work.
