Biography of James George MacDonald

James George MacDonald was born in Blantyre, then part of British West Africa, now Malawi, son of the Reverend Duff MacDonald, head of the Blantyre Church of Scotland Mission.

MacDonald enrolled at the University in 1897 together with his brother William Elder to study for an Arts degree. He attended classes in Latin (honours), German, Moral Philosophy, Logic, Mathematics, graduating MA in 1901. He went on to study Ecclesiastical History, Hebrew, Divinity, and Bible Criticism, graduating BD in 1904.

He was licensed by the Presbytery of Hamilton in 1904 and was ordained in 1914 as Minister of Elchies. He went on to minister at Ordiquhill, Banffshire.
