Biography of James Baillie
James Baillie (c 1723-1778) was Professor of Divinity at the University, 1775 to 1778, and was awarded an honorary DD in 1772.
Baillie was Minister of Shotts, Bothwell and then Hamilton before his appointment to the Chair of Divinity. He was the brother-in-law of John and William Hunter, married to their sister Dorothea, and the father of the anatomist and physician Matthew Baillie (1761-1823) and the playwright and poet Joanna Bailie (1762-1851).
