Biography of William Wallace Keir

William Wallace Keir graduated MB ChB from the University in 1898, and became Surgeon Rear-Admiral of the British Royal Navy.

He was born in Shimla, India, son of William, a medical missionary of the AMS. Keir served as a medical officer on board several hospital ships during and after the First World War, including Iphigenia, Rewa, China, and Mainze. Keir was made CMG in 1918 and was a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. He was later stationed in China where he was put in charge of the Hong Kong Naval Hospital. In 1932 he was transferred to the Haslar Royal Naval Hospital, England. In 1934 he was appointed honorary surgeon to the King, retiring in 1935.
