Biography of Arthur Allison

Arthur C Allison is a graduate of the University. He was appointed a Professor in the Department of Computing Science in 1986 and was a Vice Principal, 1991 to 2001. He was Head of Information Services from 1997 until 2000.

Born in Belfast, Allison studied at Queen's University (graduating BSc with first class honours, 1961) and was awarded a Diploma in Numerical Mathematics in 1962. He came to Glasgow as a lecturer in the Department of Computing Science and to complete his post-graduate research, and was awarded a PhD by the University in 1967.

Allison was a Mathematician at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, 1967 to 1973, before returning to Glasgow as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computing Science. He was appointed titular Professor of Computing Science in 1986. Since 2001 he has been Honorary Professorial Fellow in the Humanities and Arts Technology Institute for Information (HATII).
