Biography of Neil Alexander Selkirk

Major Neil Alexander Selkirk of the Royal Sussex Regiment was born in Blantyre, Nyasaland, son of David, a chartered accountant. Selkirk attended Dollar Academy where he captained the rugby, tennis and cricket teams and won the Edina Championship Challenge Cup for athletics. He studied at the University, captaining the rugby team and gaining a "triple blue" in rugby, tennis and athletics, and graduating BSc (Agriculture) in 1934.

Selkirk worked at the School of Agriculture at Plumpton in Sussex before joining the army. He was killed on active service in Burma in March 1944.
