W Hunter Lang
Captain William Hunter Lang, MC, of the RAMC was born in Belfast and attended the High School of Glasgow. He studied at the University, graduating MB, ChB in 1941, and became a House Surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary before entering general practice. In 1942 he enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps.
In 1943 Lang was attached to the 1st Battalion, the Royal Irish Fusiliers, and went with his regiment to North Africa. He was present at every action fought by his batallion in Tunisia, Sicily and Italy and was wounded in fighting at the Sangro River in November 1943. He was awarded the Military Cross for his skill and courage under fire, but died of his wounds on 17 December.
