This is a single, transparent, terminated crystal of blue zoisite or tanzanite. The mineral was first discovered in 1967 in the Manyara Region in the north-east of the United Republic of Tanzania. Jewellers Tiffany & Co. of New York gave the mineral the name tanzanite. This sample comes from the Merelani mines in the Arusha Region of the country.
