Tapanui is a small forestry town at the foot of the Blue Mountains in Otago Region in the south-east of New Zealand's South Island. The European history of the region is heavily influenced by the Free Church of Scotland which established the Otago settlement there in 1848 with the arrival of the first migrant ships from Greenock.
