George Hunter Gibson graduated from the University MBChB 1927. He was born on the 4 March 1905 in Barony Parish, Glasgow, the son of George Alexander Gibson who was professor of mathematics at the University and founder of the Gibson lectureship.

George H Gibson matriculated at the University in 1923 to study medicine. He graduated MB ChB on the 17 October 1927. He was a good student earning his best marks in Physics, Clinical Surgery and Zoology. He was also awarded a number of class prizes.

After graduating, George went on to become a doctor firstly in Glasgow (c.1930), in Doncaster (c. 1940s /50s), then in Leicester (1950s/60s), and finally in Invernesshire (1970s/80s). Gibson later became the County Medical Officer of Health for Leicestershire until he retired to Speyside in 1967. George Hunter Gibson died in Invernesshire on the 15 July 1986 aged 81 years old.
